“I see that when you were younger and your parents gave you money for singing lessons you went out and bought ice cream.”

I wanted to blog about the incredible motel we stayed in for Nor Cal, and I will. Perhaps the most interesting aspect was the two holes in our wall, cleverly spackled but never painted to resemble actual wall coloring. I also enjoyed our ironing board, which screamed violently when opened, as well as Andy’s iron, which apparently had brown stuff coming out of it when used. This is in no way meant to insult the motel—I loved it. It had character, or as we said on a certain camping trip I went on, “it was an adventure.” Some of our adventures from that trip included getting stranded at the dump when our van broke down, having AAA bail us out after someone locked the keys in our other van, toasting marshmallows on ballpoint pens, and hoping our tents didn’t blow away in the wind. I loved that weekend also… I have a unique sense of fun. But anyway this post was supposed to be about Nor Cal, and there are definitely some stories from there. We all learned how roosters sound in Hungarian. We went to an Oriental Buffet (and carried on the wonderful tradition of pronouncing the “t” at the end of buffet while saying it with a British accent). I was attacked by a spoon. We re-discovered the deep emotional significance of the movie Finding Nemo. We figured out that cheese and kool-aid do not mix (something no one should have to learn from experience). Lauren and I met the cupcake versions of ourselves… and later became lumberjack sheriffs. Oh and we sang. Difficult choral pieces. Me encanta mucho. And today? Drama was incredible. Here are some quotes from our improvs…

“It’s okay to like Shakespeare, but he’s only the tip of the iceberg. There’s the whole rest of the iceberg that sunk the Titanic.” – Anna (character: doesn’t like being labeled)

“I once assassinated 50 raccoons.” – Zack (character: exterminator and compulsive liar)

“My friends call me the little technology fairy.” – Monika (character: happy person applying for a tech support job)

So today was good! And tomorrow is Valentine’s Day. Enjoy it.

It’s interesting how things change. I used to be the only freshman in a group of juniors and seniors, but today I was the only junior with sophomores and freshmen. It’s different, but I liked it. Shane’s party was full of people, most of which I did not know very well, but I felt comfortable with all of them. It was just a nice, laid back group. I loved the wide open atmosphere of the old victorian farmhouse surrounded by rolling hills and green fields. Caity and I decorated the world with streamers, and I ended up decorated as well. We drew with chalk, petted chickens, held puppies, and played bingo. It was like going back to younger days and I completely enjoyed that. We also got some amazing sunglasses :P . And this morning I had rehearsal. So yea… fun day :D .

Friends are people who will stand outside of the band room with portable ipod speakers and rock out to “Baby One More Time,” scaring the random kid sitting on the bench nearby. They go to Train Town together, regardless of being considered “too old,” ride the tiny roller coaster, and chill with the llama. They sing with you in the hallways, not caring who might hear or who might join in. Friends will buy a packet of cheese (yes, cheese) and chips at Safeway and have a picnic in front of the library. They will forgive each other for talking through almost the entire Twilight movie. Friends will help clean up “natural ponds” that are actually un-natural swimming lagoons and annoy lifeguards (in a fun way, of course). They will always try the pasta whether the mysterious shapes inside are tuna or turkey sausage. They give you valentines with puppies and hearts on them. They make ridiculous videos of each other singing along to “You’re Beautiful” by James Blunt and take even more hilarious pictures. Friends go to Starbucks together and then roam the halls of Rite Aid with unfinished frappachinos. Friends help friends eat vanilla pudding. They play mini golf together in the rain. They start singing in the middle of Black Bear Diner wearing floor length choir dresses while the waitress tries to convince the other customers that they are “just having a good time.” Friends put the bad in badminton. They never have what most people would consider “normal conversations.” They will call you at midnight to ask you about a puppet. Friends make the best birthday cards. And find the best birthday cards. They stay up late IMing each other about nothing and everything. They have study sessions with chocolate covered raisins and poems about science. They go see movies together even if they are they youngest people in the theater. Friends have sleepovers where they don’t sleep. They talk about the Revolutionary War like most people would talk about Zac Effron. Friends dress up as Disney princesses together on Halloween, or just hang out on someone’s porch trying to scare trick-or-treaters. They’re different. They’re amazing. They’re kind of crazy sometimes, but they’re always there for you. Or maybe that’s just my friends.

“Key club…I think it’s community service and stuff.”

“Oh…………So, not collecting keys?”
